WPC ETA Approval
WPC ETA Approval

When we run a business, we wonder about the compliance requirements for our product. When it comes to Bluetooth and wireless devices or RF Id-based equipment, the WPC ETA certificate is required.

WPC is an abbreviation for wireless planning and coordination. WPC wing works under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Govt of India. WPC is a national agency responsible for regulating the radio frequency spectrum and issuing licences. WPC wing grants Equipment type

Approval licences to electronic and information technology devices that meet the needs of wireless users. Wireless and Bluetooth IT and electronics items that operate on unlicensed frequency bands are not permitted to be sold in India without WPC ETA approval. To obtain a WPC certificate, all manufacturers, importers, traders, and suppliers of Wireless, Bluetooth Electronics and IT teams must meet WPC compliance and regulatory requirements.

For products with radio and wireless functionalities imported or manufactured in India, an equipment type approval certificate (ETA Certificate) is required from the wireless planning and coordination wing.

Anyone who wants to do wireless device business in India must have a WPC certificate. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled device manufacturers and importers must obtain a WPC licence from the wireless planning and coordination wing. To import, manufacture, or sell any wireless or Bluetooth-enabled device in India, WPC approval is required.

What is the Equipment Type Approval?

ETA stands for Equipment Type Approval. ETA approval will be given by the wireless planning and coordination wing. Before importing or producing any wireless device in India, like Bluetooth gadgets, cell phones, Wi-Fi, RFID, and others, an equipment type approval from WPC is required.

What is the RF test Report?

An RF testing report of the equipment is required to obtain a WPC ETA certificate for a de-licensed frequency band. RF testing is a method of determining radio transmission frequency to ensure that the spectrum is being used efficiently. RF test facility in India is provided by NABL and ILAC- accredited labs. For ETA certification, an RF test report for WPC must be submitted.

A detailed test report from a NABL/ or ILAC accredited lab is required to be submitted for WPC ETA certification. We assist our clients in obtaining accurate testing reports from the lab for submission to WPC.

WPC import license:

A WPC licence for import from the wireless planning and coordination wing is required to import equipment other than a broadcasting receiver and a TVRO system. After receiving WPC ETA approval, equipment must still obtain an import licence if it is required or intended to be imported into India. If a product is manufactured outside of India, a WPC ETA certificate is required before it can be imported.

WPC licence applications can be submitted online or offline. WPC online application can be submitted for obtaining Equipment Type Approval. WPC office issued an ETA certificate for Bluetooth and wireless-enabled devices.  All foreign manufacturers shall have to appoint an authorized Indian representative (AIR) to obtain wpc licence.

Process for WPC ETA Certification:

  • Check EN standard and RF-test
  • Documentation
  • Portal generation
  • Payment of govt fee
  • Online/offline submission of documents
  • Verification of documents
  • Grant of WPC certificate
